I have been researching the Trattles since early 1990's. My mother was born a Trattles and her descendants took 17 years to find!! Along the way I gathered a 'few' Trattles and have now registered the name with the Guild of One Name Studies. Along with photograph this is my main hobby.
I have been busy - but just not writing in my blog ;0(
Further names/descendants have been adding to the database - There is currently 3760 individuals recorded.
2 people have enquired in the last months about potential links to the Trattles, which I have provided information about and I have been able to clarify a few more descendants.
I am daily tidying up the Trattles individuals, trying to find info about them and double checking sources recorded against them... still trying to link lines to each other... ONE BIG JIGSAW
It is now the 1st July 2012 - I have been Trattling for the last 4 weeks 0 but not intensively! Currently I am creating spreadsheets with all census data. I have been viewing a few other One Name Study Websites and this is ho they tend to make data available rather than just providing a family tree.
Have been comparing Find My Past v Ancestry transcriptions - am finding a fre transcription variants which include: TRATTLE, FATTLE, HATTLE, TRATLES, TRATLE, TRATTEL, TRATTER, FERSTLER, SRATTLES, TREATTLES
I have been Trattling the last couple of weeks - just not blogging. I have now established a spreadsheet listing all entries that I find for Births, bapt, chr, marr - some deaths and burials. Tis list includes the variants TRATTLE, TRATTEL, TRATTLES, TRATTELS, TRATLE, TRATLES, TRATTELL, TRATTELLS. I was amazed at the number of TRATELs in the South in late 1700s and wonder are these linked somehow. Some of them were merchant seamen.
The old parish records have given me much new info to work on.
Also just come across the Merchant Seamen index for 1845-1854 :
Got a few more bits of info on American Trattles - family of Leban Trattles, Michigan. Started to look at Find My Past Parish Registers - but there appears to be a discrepancy in records provided by CFHS.... they have Cleveland Parish Registers and North Yorkshire Parish Registers which appear to overlap. Ie Ann Trattles bapt 23 Oct 1749 to John - in Hinderwell... one register has abode as Runswick the other as Staithes! - This occurs wiht the majority of Hinderwell records
SPent most of day adding baptisms sources from all England - some new records along the way as well.
Yesterday (16/5/12) the following lines:
Mary TRATTLES & THEASBY - Scarborough area. Resulted in find a family tree with Ellen DANIEL - 3rd Cousin of my mam .....
Last night started John CODLING & Ann TRATTLES - hope to finish today.
Locating Records in IGI and Ancestry for descendants linked to DANIEL TRATTLES, born England 1837 and emmigrated to Michigan USA in 1840s
After 5 hours of browsing and adding info! Have now got 2,556 records in database. Ended up reviewing all of Wm Trattles & Sarah Hebrons descendants and began 'properly' reading the Trattles/Hebron letters from the Cass County website.... how great they are!
11th May 2012 7:55 - Spent an hour loading info to Wm re all the ships he travelled on as a steward in early 1900s. The realised there are 2 Wm H Trattles born in Sth Shields between 1901 - 1904. One to Wm and one to George H ;0(
8:10 - Sussed. The above were cousins - their grandfather being Matthew Trattles. The steward on ships was son of George H. Based on 1911 address and George (dad) was also a steward - where Uncle Wm was a Jet ornament manufacturer.
6am: Following a query from Chris re cousins Margaret and John Trattles marrying, I updated my database with records from IGI and added sources to current data, regards to the Trattles in Brotton between 1650 and 1700. This included Philip, Thomae, Michaell and Robert Tratle - who all had kids in 1660s. I am assuming they may have been brothers - but time will tell.
8:10: Just added the 2500 record to my Trattles, spouses and descendants database! William Tratle born 1670 Brotton, Yorkshire to Robert Tratle!
I have just created the Trattles Blog - hopefully I will record what I have been doing regards to adding records to my database and answering any queries. Must also keep website up to date! www.trattles.co.uk
